Your Dog's Info

Does your dog require medication during his or her time with us?

Does your dog have any behavioral issues?

Is your dog safe to play with dogs of all sizes, even tiny breeds?
Has your dog ever bitten another dog? If so please explain the circumstances...
Has your dog ever been attacked by another dog at a dog park or in another group setting? If so, when was this and how has he rebounded from this experience?
Is your dog likely to chase down another dog who runs fast in play?
Has your dog ever ‘pinned down’ or nipped another dog specifically on the neck or the back leg in play?
Would you describe your dog's play style as very physical (for instance loves to wrestle with other dogs), normal or gentle?
Does your dog get overwhelmed when around large numbers of other dogs?
Is your dog friendly on leash?
If another dog doesn't want to play, does your dog take 'no' for an answer?
Has your dog ever had obedience training? If so, where and when?
Was positive reinforcement insisted upon?
Does your dog have a good recall?
Will he sit or ‘wait’ on command?
Is your dog an escape artist? Can he jump a 5 foot fence?
Our fences are minimum six feet high and 18 inches below the ground but we do not accept dogs that can jump over five feet. If your dog isn't the best behaved dog on the planet, don't panic, it doesn't necessarily mean he'll get turned away, but we need to know of any possible issues so we can make the necessary arrangements. We have plenty of dogs that come to DD that are 'naughty little perfect angels' and we enjoy them just as much as you do; we just need to make sure they're kind spirited dogs who won't hurt or scare another guest, is all.
Is your dog a barker?
Does your dog display signs of separation anxiety?
Is your dog thunder phobic?
Is your dog a chewer? Our facility is mainly wood panelling lined for noise cancelling and everyone has a chair of their own. Is he liable to chew wood, beds, a couch, carpets?
Would you like us to crate your dog during nap times and for sleeping?
Our crates are minimum 4 feet by 4 feet, six feet high with soft beds and water bowls (of course!), so, if you feel your dog might settle better in a crate, we can do this until your dog indicates he'd prefer not to be crated.
In the rare likelihood that your dog is injured, and you are not available to make an immediate decision, do we have your permission to take your dog to a local veterinarian and to contact your veterinarian for records?
We cannot guarantee being able to take your dog to your own veterinarian due to time constraints and availability of staff or appointments.
Is your dog neutered or spayed

Vaccines

Please do not ever give your dog any vaccinations within TEN days prior to your dog coming to the Ranch for ANY reason. We do NOT require Bordatella or Canine influenza vaccines as they can spread disease to other dogs in some cases. If your dog has had a bordatella vaccine please allow a full ten days before Ranch visits. If you would like to discuss our vaccine requirements, just give us a call. Please attach a copy of your dogs vaccine records from your veterinarian for our records (for online registration please upload these records)

A little bit about food…..

At the Ranch we feed a home-made, easy-to-digest diet of top quality fresh meat, a little rice and seasonal fresh garden vegetables. We offer multiple protein sources but mostly always chicken or turkey is offered, as well as beef or pork or fish, depending on what the dog prefers. Feel free to let us know which will suit your dog more. If you feed a lower quality food like some of the better known mass produced kibbles on the market, and your dog has never had fresh food in his life (shame!) your dog may experience loose stool at the Ranch due to the vegetables. This is exactly the same response that your own body would have if you were eating cheeseburgers every day of your life and then one day ate one of your Grandma’s roast dinners with vegetables and all fresh produce. We would urge you to consider getting your dog into the habit of enjoying a little fresh meat and some fresh dog-friendly vegetables on their food every day. It is a super healthy way to feed your dog, increase his life exponentially, make him love you WAY more…. and will ease his transition to Ranch food greatly.
Does your dog eat prescription food?
Does your dog eat raw food?
Is your dog forced to be a vegan, not through verifiable medical need but because of your own dietary choices ? If so, please just go away you’re clearly an idiot!!!
Can we give your dog treats as appropriate?
Is your dog possessive around food?
While we supervise all dogs at mealtimes, some dogs do better if they are fed in a crate, if so, let us know and we will arrange.

And finally, here’s the legal bit

Your dog is going to be playing and running, jumping, swimming, digging, rolling etc on natural land that is untreated by pesticides. Thus, natural insects, snakes and spiders etc will be on the land as they are in all wooded areas. Your dog is going to be playing with other dogs in a huge free-range, off leash setting where they can pick up speed, bash into each other by accident on occasion or pick up injuries running on uneven ground. Your dog is going to be splashing and swimming in a natural swim hole or stream on occasion. The water comes from a local river and is just natural unfiltered, unchlorinated local river water. Your dog is going to play with sticks, chase birds, squirrels and rabbits, is going to climb on and off obstacles and have an adventure in a very natural unadulterated environment. Do you understand the risks and agree to hold harmless the Desperate Dogs Ranch for any damage, illness or injury incurred?
